How to survive a recession

Lesson 1

I like to keep things short and simple so it’s a quick read for you.  Don’t be fooled by the simplicity.  I have been through a few recessions and know what you are going through. That’s why I’m giving you these lessons for free. I want to help you.

If you want to benefit from these lessons then you must apply them. It’s no use just reading them. You must go out and do it ! This might mean changing some bad habits for good one’s.

Unfortunately due to the media’s habit of printing bad news  - everyone believes we are in a recession. I was very fortunate in that I didn’t know I was in a recession. I never read the newspapers; never watched T.V. There was no internet and e mail those days. So I was at a big advantage.

P.S. I have been through 4 recessions

Here is something interesting: I have a few friends who have businesses. They are doing better now than they have ever done before !

Now why do you think this is ?  You will learn in future lessons.

Lets’ begin with the following  TO DO :

1.  Stop reading the newspapers and watching the news.

2.  Read something positive before going to sleep and when you wake up in the morning. I am reading “The Science of getting Rich” at the moment – which I intend summarizing for you and giving you extracts every week.

3.  Take the vitamin Solgar V 2000 plus Calmag, E & vitamin C – will reduce stress.

4Do some exercise every day.  Start right now  take 5 deep breaths.

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D Wattles
“There is a science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches; once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man, he will get rich with mathematical certainty”…..read this over and over so you totally understand.

 How to survive a recession

 Lesson 2

Let’s look back at when I was in real trouble in the 1990’s and I was forced to sell my beautiful home “on the beach” in La Lucia, Natal. South Africa. I was forced to give it away at half the market price. I had also gone through a divorce and many other problems… I remember trying to hold on to my home after one deal after the next fell through. In the end my bank manager at F.N.B. gave me 12 hours to accept a cash offer from my tenant at half the market price.

Isn’t it strange I am once again living in the same road “on the beach”

If I hadn’t gone through those tough times I wouldn’t be doing so well today. This is a fact.

The good thing about now is that we all have to “get out of our comfort zones” if we want to survive this period with success.

Remember you can have anything you want if you have the right attitude, discipline and focus.

To Do :

1.       Tidy your work space

Tidy your desk and draws. Get rid of the “clutter”.  Have a policy of always having a clear desk. Nothing better than sitting down at a “clear desk”.

2.     Plan

Every week spend an hour planning your week ahead. This is a great stress reliever. I would recommend doing this on a Friday – you will enjoy your weekend more.

The Science of Getting Rich  by W.D. Wattles(1860-1911)

If you read this book over and over until you totally understand it. Then do what the author tells you to do you – you will get rich. This is a fact.

“Every man or woman who does this will certainly get rich; for the science herein applied is an exact science, and failure is impossible. ….read this book and do exactly as it tells you to do.”

Quote for the week

"Remember, happiness doesn't depend on who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think." Dale Carnegie

Lesson 3

Are you working efficiently and effectively ?

There is only 24 hours in a day which you can divide into the following:

8 hours to sleep

8 hours to work

8 hours to do whatever.

How many of us actually work efficiently and effectively in those 8 hours ?

To Do

 1. Get a kitchen timer for your desk and record how much time  you spend on  important tasks like:

 Planning                E mails               Administration

2. Ask yourself before starting any task:

"Is this the most  important task I can do  right now ? Will it get me closer to my  goals ?

The Science of Getting Rich by W.D. Wattles(1860-1911)

“The author advocates that money is not limited and that people possess a hidden ability to achieve wealth and happiness. Intelligence, education and capital are not required, just the commitment to follow his step-by-step process of creative thinking that will lead the reader not only to riches but also a fuller and happier life.” D. Howell

“It is perfectly right that you should desire to be rich; if you are a normal man or woman you cannot help doing so. It is perfectly right that you should give your best attention to the Science of Getting Rich, for it is the noblest and most necessary of all studies.”

Definition of “noblest” - greatest ; honourable.

Lesson 4

Have you got Patience ?

 Many people want everything now.

Unfortunately life doesn’t work like that.

If you start doing the right things on a continuous basis you will eventually get what you want.  This means “going without” certain things until you are “financially free”.

When I got into trouble in the 90’s I sold my “beachfront home” and moved in with my girlfriend. A year later I moved into a 1 bedroom flat. I only moved out that 1 bedroom flat 5 years ago (2004). I went "without" while I built up my wealth. I am now living on the beach in my dream home.

So start now “creating new habits” which are going to give you all the wonderful things you want. This week I want you to go over the things To Do from lessons 1,2 & 3 .

Lesson 1  - To Do

Stop reading the newspapers and watching the news.

Read something positive before going to sleep and when you wake up in the morning. I recommend reading “The Science of getting Rich”.

Take the vitamin Solgar V 2000 plus Calmag, E & vitamin C – will reduce stress.

Do some exercise every day. Start right now take 5 deep breaths.

 Lesson 2  - To Do

Do the following to “reduce stress” and put yourself  in Control”.

Tidy your work space :

Tidy your desk and draws. Get “rid of the clutter”.

Plan :

Every week spend an hour or two planning your week ahead. This will reduce a lot of “stress and overwhelm”.

Lesson 3 - To Do

Are you working efficiently and effectively ?

1. Get a kitchen timer for your desk and record how much time you spend on important tasks like: Planning;  E mails  &  Administration

2. Ask yourself before starting any task – is this the most important task I can do right now ? Will it get me closer to my goals ?

The Science of Getting Rich by W.D. Wattles(1860-1911)

Efficient Action

“Every day is either a successful day or a day of failure; and it is the successful days which get you what you want.”

“Much may be depending on your doing some simple act; it may be the very thing which is to open the door of opportunity to very great possibilities”. “……your neglect or failure to do some small thing may cause a long delay in getting what you want.”

“Do, every day, ALL that can be done that day.”

“It is really not the number of things you do, but the EFFICIENCY of each separate action that counts.”

Quote for the week

“FOR EVERY DISCIPLINED EFFORT THERE IS A MULTIPLE REWARD” Jim Rohn.

 Lesson 5

Are you giving more than you are receiving ?

There is a universal law that says the more you give the more you get . I have no idea how it works but it does.

In business we could call it “added value”. Give people more than they expect.

If you are employed - are you giving your best  ?

I used to own a restaurant called Gordons Prawn in Umhlanga Rocks, South Africa. When I was going through my challenging times in 1990 I introduced a Seafood Buffet – eat as much as you like for only R29.95 on a Sunday and Wednesday evening. Within 6 months my net profit increased from R10,000 to R40,000. Remember we were in a recession then.

I am going to do the same thing now with my seminar business. Instead of charging R495.00 per person I am going to really give value and price the seminar at R295.00 for 2 people. Plus I am going to discount all my products at the seminart. Let’s see what happens !

 To Do

Look at an area of your life where you can give more without expecting anything in return.

The Science of Getting Richby W.D. Wattles(1860-1911)

How Riches come to you

“….you do not have to get something for nothing, but can give to every man more than you take from him.”

“Give every man more in use value than you take from him in cash value.”

Quote for the week

“The more you pass on to others the more you keep for yourself.” Zig Ziglar
