Do you believe you can retire in 5 years or less ?

Comment below so I can help you

In 1993 if you had asked me this question I would have probably answered yes. I wouldn’t have had a clue as to how I was going to do it but I would have believed I could.

I am the eternal optimist and will always find the good in any situation. This comes from many years of experience and focusing on self improvement.

Remember in 1993 I was slowly getting myself out of a major financial mess. In 1991 I was in debt of R5 Million and technically bankrupt.

R5 million in 1991 is the equivalent of about R15 million today, so it was a lot of money, especially when I couldn’t service this debt.

I went through extremely tough times but managed to survive and retired in 1998.

This took 7 years.

If I had the knowledge then that I have today, it would probably have taken me a maximum of 5 years to retire.

Now what is your belief system ?

Do you believe you can retire in 5 years or less ?

Comment on why you would like to retire in 5 years or less, and what you would like to do once you have retired. This will help me to help you in future articles.

Dear Gordon
In the next five years I will be 41.
Travelling the world is one of my favourite activities , I will also pass on the information that made me to retire young and wealthy. I will also open a business school - where people will be taught only the truth , and the truth is that degrees don't make you wealthy...you must tell yourself that you want to be wealthy and read and act on the information that you have read. I have a home/house I am staying in , a flat , and two empty stands in the Free State and I am planning to buy more land in Mpumalanga - watch the space. Thanks for inspiration and sharing all that with us Gordon

It is my dream to retire early so that I can spend most of my time sowing back to my rural community all what I learnt in my years of life in order to uplift my community especially those who never had a chance to go further at school. So that they can also make it in life.

To retire in 5 years will mean that I am solely earning independantly of my JOB (Just over budget)through enabling people to believe and help themeselves. My earnings will be passive income (as per Richard's comment) together with an exchange of ££ for some of my time helping others achieve their desired outcomes. Enabling me to spend the rest of my chosen time with my globally dispersed family and more time in the bush with elephants and supporting their own fight. Gordon look forward to you showing me how ...

Gordon, I just want to say how happy I am for you that you managed to get back to where you are financially today. I knew you around about that period that you mention (about 1990 - 1992) - and never realised just what trouble you were in. In spite of everything you always managed to appear to be happy and full of fun. I do remember going to you house on the beach one day though and walking into it , only to find that there was no furniture left inside ! ! We had some good times together in spite of your problems, and no one deserves to have made it more than you. Im proud of you.

I would like to retire early when i'm 40 years or younger in order for me to travel the world in seven seas. I call it Freedom to be me and enjoy life in its fulness with my family. I plan to leave a legacy in the property industry and aviation. That is why I work hard and smart to make sure I get there faster. Things happened late in life for me as I had to struggle my way to the desired life. I am a 28 year old student in Ivory Coast, doing all my diploma modules in French. I will be finishing my studies in August of the following year, so I plan to immediately buy my first property. So I believe by 40, I will be somewhere in great destiny. It is 10 years right :-) Thanks Gordon very much for your articles.

I would like to retire in 5 years time as then I will be 50 years old, The famous Robert Kyosaki was about my age (45) when he started and was able to retire at around the age of 50, given that the economic conditions are different now as to when he started. Once I have retired at age 50 I would like to help other people to do the same especially young adults, people just leaving school and teach them true entrepreneurshi p as that is not taught in any school today, the environment that we live in today is very different from the one when we were young (18 - 20 years old). I would also like to obtain my PPL (Private Pilots License) at 50 and rebuild my property portfolio which I have all lost in 2006 when my business went under, my biggest challenge now is that I know aexactly what I need to do and what I want to do but do not have the financila means to put that in practise, very very very frustrating, please help

I'd love to "Retire" from working for money with a residual income model, but never retire from enjoying a financially abundant lifestyle. :)

I would continue with my Personal Transformation LifeShift workshops, my free wealthShift coaching & research project, do more public speaking on how people can take action to transform their life on all 6 levels, finish more of my 1 Minute Wisdom for... books.

I'd Travel the world more lecturing, presenting, training, coaching and having massive impact and fun.

I'd find WAYS to leave valuable legacies for those who are ready to evolve.

Namaste'

After been in a accident that made me an amputee of both lower legs, I now reside in an disabled home in Jhb. Lost all I had; including a wife and daughter I now hardly ever see due to distance, and not having funds to fly from Jhb to Cpt often enough. This accident had me hospitalized for more than a year trying to save the legs. This caused me to end up on ITC for bad credit; which I now am owing more than a 100k, and struggling to get out of still after 10 years...

Now should I be able to start up a business plan that is successful, and be able to retire in 5 years, I would invest most of my time and money in buying and selling properties. Been working in the estate agency business for three years now, and some real good deals out there.

I am 50 years old, a year ago i made a foolish mistake by investing most of my savings with a friend of mine who was a broker in the U.K,now my whole investment of R500000.00 has vapourised and i have no recourse.I have purchased one investment property so far, however, the banks are pretty tight with loans at present, and time is against me. My wife and i have both worked hard bringing up two sons, I would love to be able to retire even in 6 years and be able to spend some quality time travelling together.

In 5 years time I will be 45 years old and it will be nice for me to retire at that age while I'm still young and be able to spend more time with my family. However I am currently working for a salary but also persuing my own businesses and have 5 residential properties. Three of those have been rented out and receiving income to pay back the loans although I still have to subsidise that income in order to meet monthly bond repayments

Hi Gordon

I would like to retire in five years and travel to places like the Smithsonian museums in Washington, see a game at Liverpool football club, go Normandy beach in France and follow the path of many of the battles of the 2nd World War.
I want my foundation to help schools in SA...especially those without proper facilities.I want to go to every game my kids play and other activities they are involved in and mostly I want to be with my beautiful wife Cindy.

We have 13 bonded properties which I oobtained while working for a salary. Our monthly shortfall on all our properties are currently R 4 000. We would like to retire in 7 years time at age 55. We should need a couple more properties to have the income we would like at retirement age. We are currently fast tracking our smallest bond to enable us to pay off all bonds by age 55. How do we structure our application and how do we approach the bank to lend us more money to buy more property as my income is not constant every month as I am a consultant working for myself?

Thank You to everyone for posting your comments on this blog. You are providing very valuable information.

What do you think of Richard Soderblom's comment "All that is required is to have a passive income that is the equivalent of your current salary right now." ?

He puts it in a nutshell and shows just how easy this can be.

Thank You Richard for your contribution.

I believe that one can retire in much less. I have started working towards the goal of being being able to retire in 24 months.

All that is required is to have a passive income that is the equivalent of your current salary right now. Any extra is a bonus and will allow you to have greater dreams.

Looking forward to reading more of your articles :-)

After retiring , I would pursue helping others , especially unemployed people who have been written off by everyone . ( I was once one ! ) By helping 1 person ( a job or financially ) an entire family can be helped . This brings back dignity to that person as well as meeting life'e needs . On a large scale this will go a long way to eliminating violence , abuse , crime and bring families back into the conventional family unit , ie 2 parents . There will be a ripple effect and the other givers will also gain spiritual blessings . There is such a need for this in SA at the moment and we can't stand by and allow these tragedies and hopelessness to perpetuate themselves through to subsequent generations . I believe that dignity and sel=esteem and the lack there-of are at the heart of many social problems . I also believe that once dignity and self-esteem have been restored these people in turn will do the same for others less fortunate .( Sorry for the waffle )

On this day2010/11/05 I will be informed if my application to be board on medical grounds was successful or not. I want to spend my time with my family and make sure they are provided for properly when I'm not here anymore. We never had a holiday together and I think it is time to make up for that.

I would like to retire within 5 years or less in order for me to own my life completely! This will allow me to travel the world at will and at my leisure in the knowledge that I have sufficient ongoing residual income to sustain the life of my dreams and follow my passions to study metaphysics and healthy outdoor pursuits.
